Just as Pat pulled in from work at the bar early morning on Wednesday at 2:45 a.m., Heather's water broke. Perfect Timing! We called the doctor and headed to the hospital. The contractions started coming and were no longer than 2 minutes apart, so we knew we had to hurry! Pat drove (sped more like it) timed contractions on his new watch and called the parents all at the same time as Heather focused on her breathing (not such an easy task as we now know.) We arrived at Good Sheperd Hospital and Heather was rushed up to a room as Pat parked the car. Four nurses immediately began working on her, taking vitals and prepping for birth. Doctor Beall arrived and decided right there after looking at the baby's heart rate that Heather would need a c-section immediately. Everything happened so fast from there. The nurses threw scrubs at Pat and told him to dress as they wheeled Heather to the operating room. Less than 2 1/2 hours later, the doctor announced it was a boy at at 5:08 a.m. August was born into our lives and stamped on our hearts.
We have been in the hospital for 2 nights so far and we would like to report we have the best baby on the floor. We hear other babies crying and ours is content to snuggle in our arms. We are able to grab a few hours sleep at a time and hope it lasts forever! He is the most wonderfully beautiful boy and our hearts are filled with love and wonder and the miracle of life. Pat is impressing nurses daily with his swaddling skills and the being the quickest Dad to jump to change a diaper. Heather is on the road to recovery.
Many thanks to all Auggie's family and friends who have come to visit or send well wishes and flowers. We are overwhelmed at our little florist shop we have created and all the sweet gifts and pictures of our guests.
