Auggie's Summer Heats Up

Our first official month of summer is about to come to a close and we have been taking full advantage of mommy's time off and getting Auggie out and about! We have added many more adventures to our list and we would love to share some more photos and memories with you...

Cousin Dana has a sincere love of horses and has been riding at Mainstay for years!!! Last week, our family was invited to celebrate Dana and Uncle Leon's 2 year anniversary of their successful kidney transplant. We went to the stable and joined cousin Jaxon to watch Dana ride. Of course both boys slept through most of the event, but that made for happy parents and most importantly, happy horses. Then it was off to have a tower of onion rings and pizza at Dusty's. What a great night!! Special cheers to Dana and Leon!!! Happy Anniversary!
If you know the Arnold family, you know they are avid Hawks fans. Naturally Auggie has inherited this trait. So what could have been more extraordinary than the NHL series this year and the Blackhawks rise to the Stanley Cup. Here, Auggie and Daddy watch a game together...though when Auggie shut his eyes, Daddy was not allowed to shout or cheer out loud. It was a funny sight for mom when he would quietly shake his fists in excitement and pump his arms in the air when they scored a goal! As we have learned in this house fairly quickly...NEVER wake a sleeping baby!

After having a baby, you must always be looking for those free activities that get you out of the house. Well, we have found one that we most certainly enjoy! The free concert in the park is our new activity of choice. We drove down to the park and spread out our blanket on the lawn. It was a cool evening, the bugs were at bay and we rocked Auggie to the sounds of Swing. While he listened, of course mom and dad enjoyed a hot dog and shared the hugest ice cream cone ever known to man...a chocolate and peanut covered waffle cone filled with birthday cake ice cream and double chocolate ice cream. Too bad we don't have a picture of that!

We took a trip up to Lake Geneva last weekend to visit Great Grandma Arnold! We gave her quite a surprise by showing up at her doorstep and she was thrilled to have the company. We got to listen to old stories (our favorite!) of her childhood and family. We especially enjoyed the one about how she used to sneak into Wrigley Field to watch a Cubs game. That would never happen these days, would it? Her door was decorated with tons of pictures of Auggie with his birth announcement plastered on the wall. She is one proud great grandma! And she still has the magic touch.

We got to spend one afternoon picking strawberries in the 90 degree weather at Stade's Farm. I had gone last year and picked a bunch for the first time and made my Great Aunt Dorothy's Strawberry Pie. So this year, I wanted Pat to know what a warm, sun-drenched strawberry tasted like--there is truly nothing better or sweeter. It's like candy! Due to all the rain, the strawberry crop is basically over, but we got a chance to pick a few. I would love to be able to do this every year as it gives you a real appreciation for fresh, locally grown food as well as for the farms and farmers! We enjoyed the berries on grilled pound cake slathered with lemon curd and whipped cream for Father's Day. Yum!!!
